Cute and Cosy Cottage for Sale at Mullagh, County Clare

If you are looking for a traditional cottage within easy reach of all of the beautiful hotspots of Co. Clare and at a reasonable price – have a look at Fushia Cottage. Its owner Dave brought it to my attention this week and it really is worth the spotlight. The restoration kept much of the old Irish Cottage charm while updating it with all of the necessary modern conveniences like an ensuite bathroom! I love the kitchen area with its beautiful Belfast sink and large inviting hearth and solid fuel stove to warm up winter nights. The windows are the old deep reveals and the kinds you imagine with a single candle burning at christmas as in the old tradition. Tasteful elements are everywhere from the pine dresser to the wooden doors and handles and most importantly – the red half door. Apparently tennant farmers painted their doors red when their houses were fully paid off and owned so the tax collectors knew not to call on them any longer. Fushia Cottage is a cute and cosy investment for anyone looking for a slower pace of life or a base to explore the stunning beaches and scenery of Co. Clare. From its infamous surfing, inspiring musical tradition and friendly locals – Clare is definatley one of my favourite counties to visit – and could be your ideal county to live! Check out this website created for Fushia Cottage or you can call the owner Dave directly for more information on 086 0489064 or from outside Ireland ++ 353 86 048...

Cottage Spotting: Traditional Thatched Cottage, Co. Clare

It’s time for a little eye candy for all you cottage enthusiasts out there; I came across this beautiful Thatched cottage for sale in Lissycasey, Co. Clare this week. It ticks all the right boxes with its neat thatch, half door, sliding sash windows, barge and rough render – and that is only on the outside! Inside it appears that the owners have really kept the traditional feel while incorporating modern living standards such as under floor heating. The thatch is actually just for decoration as it has a tile underlay – twice the protection from the elements and heat loss. Long gone is the outhouse, this cottage features no less than three bathrooms – some traditions really are better left in the past and running to the outhouse when nature calls is definitely one of them. Modern renovated cottages are usually the masters of deception and this is no different as it has three bedrooms tucked away under its golden fringe. Its floor area is around 127 square meters (that’s just under 1,400 square feet in old money!) The hearth is as traditional as they come – large, open and at floor level with a cooking crane and various traditional cooking utensils around it. The windows have the deep reveals typical of these solid old stone structures. High ceilings and white rough rendered walls give a large airy feel to the cottage. Although the kitchen is modern with fitted cabinets they are have a traditional finish and details such as the dresser and solid wood table and súgán chairs give it a real homey, cottage feel. Everywhere there...
